Hashim Garrett, a 15-year old victim of senseless gang violence, was shot 6 times, partially paralyzed with 12 holes in his young body, and left for dead on a Brooklyn, New York street corner. As he lay on the cold pavement Hashim begged God ' Please don't let me die'.
Donna Roman Hernandez is a multi-award-winning independent film Director, Producer, Composer and Writer and the owner of Blue Force Films based in New Jersey. Donna is a former Police Captain who served 27 years in law enforcement. Her passion for writing true crime stories and filmmaking has resulted in these award-winning films:
“THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL: A SURVIVOR’S JOURNEY” is a 51-minute auto-biographical docu-memoir that exposes the Roman family’s more than three decade secret of domestic violence, the cycle of physical abuse and emotional terrorism that had life-altering consequences for the entire family. “THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL” is an eight-time award-winning film and its theme song won the Home Grown Composer Award during the 2007 Garden State Film Festival in New Jersey.
“FALLEN BLUE HEROES” is a 46-minute documentary that honors and pays tribute to those law enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty who made the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and protection of others. The Fallen Blue Heroes DVD may also be purchased through the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C.
“A CALL FOR VALOR” is a 37-minute documentary about Irvington, New Jersey Police Sergeant Ken Hogan and his near-fatal encounter with an armed drug suspect who had a mission to kill Hogan. Donna won the ‘Best NY Director Award’ for “A CALL FOR VALOR” during the 2008 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival.
“NEWARK STREET PREACHERS” is a 49-minute documentary that explores a faith-based community’s mission to stop the gang killings of inner-city youths in Newark, New Jersey. NEWARK STREET PREACHERS won the Best Social Documentary Award at the 2008 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival; it won the Best Short Documentary Award during the 2009 Urban Mediamakers Film Festival in Atlanta and was screened opening night during the San Diego Black Film Festival.
“CLOSURE” is a 28-minute drama based on the true story of how September 11, 2001 altered the life of a Police Officer whose sister, also a Police Officer, perished in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. CLOSURE won the Best Drama Award in Los Angeles during the 2007 New York International Film & Video Festival.
“STREET JUSTICE” is a 5 ½ minute documentary about Hashim, a Brooklyn, New York gang member, and his redemption at the age of 15 after he was shot 6 times, partially paralyzed, and left for dead. STREET JUSTICE is a two-time award-winning film and a Visionary Award Honorable Mention at the 2010 DC International film Festival in Washington, DC.
“SHATTERED LIVES” is a 17-minute documentary that features an “Out of the Darkness” suicide awareness community walk in New Jersey where survivors and Police Officers walk in memory of their lost ones to suicide, speak about their grief and how to recognize the early warning signs of suicide.
